Duplex Systems
Coating systems based on epoxies, vinyl and acrylics have proven their success when used on galvanised steel. The lifetime of the duplex system is 1.5 to 2.5 times higher than the sum of the lifetimes of the zinc coating and the paint coating system when used separately.
In order to achieve the best adhesion possible when painting galvanised steel, it is very important that the steel is properly prepared. This process involves scrubbing down the steel with a galvanising iron cleaner, washing it off and then drying properly before painting. The steel must not be passivated after the galvanising process.
In addition to the greatly improved corrosion protection, painting also helps maintain a better appearance. Galvanised steel becomes dull grey over time and although this is normal, it may be preferable to paint for aesthetic reasons.
